AF-Eco® - Masterbatches especially for biodegradable plastics
Bioplastics are market-ready solutions for the sustainability of our environment and are already used in a variety of applications. BIO-FED, another branch of AKRO-PLASTIC, produces M·VERA® bioplastics which can be perfectly processed together with our AF-Eco® masterbatches. With our certified pool of colorants, almost any color target can be realised with our AF-Eco® masterbatches. Most of the M·VERA® biocompounds developed for film applications are "OK compost INDUSTRIAL" or "OK compost HOME" certified and thus comply with the EN 13432 or NF T81-500 standard.
These certification standards are the authoritative standards in Europe and suppliers must operate within these standards on the basis of appropriate tests. In addition, this standard also regulates the heavy metal content in packaging applications. Due to the high melt strength of M·VERA®, the bioplastics can be easily used on conventional film extrusion lines and are also applicable for multilayer film extrusion. Bioplastics are used in many ways in our everyday lives, as you can see from the examples below.
Shopping Bags
For some time now, the retail sector has been using organic plastic bags which are biodegradable through an industrial composting process. This process is regulated in DIN EN 13432 and awarded with a seal such as "OK compost INDUSTRIAL" by TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium. The biodegradable bio-compound used must be at least 90 % fragmented under industrial conditions after 3 months, and remaining fragments must not be larger than 2 mm. Furthermore, after 6 months, the film must be biodegraded to 90 %, while a conventional grocery bag remains unchanged for several decades or even centuries. With our AF-ECO® products we show you possibilities in color of the compostable plastic range.
Shipping, Commerce
In our very fast-paced world, the benefits of the mail order business, such as 24/7 shopping, an almost limitless range of products, stress-free shopping without traffic jams and crowds, are a great asset to many customers. With the rapidly increasing shipping numbers, the volume of packaging materials is also increasing. In addition to the shipping box, the padded envelope represents another packaging option. We want to counteract the additional waste problem that arises as a result, and offer you films made from biodegradable plastic.
Waste Bags
Domestic waste is mostly collected in the kitchen. We all use garbage bags to dispose of waste in a convenient and clean way – but when it comes to organic waste, disposal poses a problem, because in order to dispose of it properly, even the bags must be biodegradable. The "OK compost INDUSTRIAL" seal, which relates to industrial compostability, plays a major role here as well. Also available is the "OK compost HOME" seal, which is intended for waste bags that can be composted at home. These can be composted under local conditions.
Mulch Film
Polyethylene plastic films are predominantly used in agriculture and horticulture to cover beds and arable land. These are used in large quantities, particularly in the commercial sector. After harvest, the films are laboriously picked up. However, as these cannot be recycled in a conventional way by contaminating soil, they must be disposed of separately or even burned. A biodegradable variant, with properties comparable to existing films, is much easier to handle and, above all, more environmentally friendly. After an intensive test phase, we are also presenting our film types to you.
